One To World’s Global Classroom offers New York City K-12 students with curriculum-based learning opportunities focused on an array of cross-cultural themes and global issues. Global Classroom educators work directly with program partners, classroom teachers and after-school staff, to plan both the format and curricular content of every program. All of our formats complement New York State Learning Standards, and apply to in-school, after-school and summer programs.
Global Classroom programs are led by One To World educators and “Global Guides,” trained international college and university students and Fulbright scholars from all world regions who incorporate their unique first-hand perspectives into every Global Classroom session. As role models for recently arrived immigrant students and American-born students alike, Global Guides also inspire and enable teachers to incorporate diverse global perspectives in reaching their curricular goals.

How have teachers used Global Classroom? - Global Music- From belly dancing to Irish step, students enjoyed a semester of studying music and dance from around the world. The main question surrounding the program was; “How does music affect communities?” With Global Guide workshops, peer interviews and exploring their own community, they created a video now featured on the Department of Education’s FutureNow website. - Global Careers and Education- Global Guides served as role models and mentors for high school students’ college education and career development. Their perspectives of adapting to a culture different from their own and speaking English as a second language made this program particularly relevant for immigrant students and first-generation New Yorkers.
-- Global Classroom Poetry Club- Through these workshops, students had a chance to learn about other cultures, learn new skills in writing poetry, and learn about themselves through personal reflection activities. In the end, students created a “Global Voices” poetry book of their poems on cultural perspectives.
- International Students Club- This program brought together many different cultures of the school in a safe space for cross-cultural exchange and learning. Workshops on topics, chosen by the students, allowed them to reflect on the Global Guide’s culture and their own. In the end, they created a video, reflecting on their experience. |
